The complaint that security is broken isn’t new and even industry insiders are joining the chorus. Companies spent an estimated $75 billion last year on security products and yet cyber attacks and data breaches are still a common occurrence. Now, we’re finding that security tools themselves have vulnerabilities that are putting organizations at risk.
Microsoft announced on Tuesday the availability of 13 security bulletins that patch roughly 50 vulnerabilities in Windows, Internet Explorer, Edge, Office and Exchange. The company said one of the browser flaws has been exploited in the wild.
Microsoft’s September Patch Tuesday security update includes a fix for a critical problem reported by enSilo researchers that affects hundreds of Windows applications, including Microsoft’s own line of products.
The latest ransomware intrusion that targets Linux servers, dubbed “FairWare,” may be a classic server hack designed to bilk money from victims with no intent to return stolen files after payment in bitcoins is made.
